General features
In its first year of Grand Prix racing, Using technology developed from Yamaha’s Grand Prix winning factory machines, the 2004 YZ450F runs with new larger diameter 48mm front forks and uprated rear suspension – while the high-revving short-stroke motor benefits from revised carburettor settings and remapped ignition timing.

The YZF received the biggest update in its history. First, the engine displacement was increased with 449 cc in compliance to the new AMA Motocross maximum displacement rule, the engine now produced over 52 hp (39 kW).
