Frequently asked questions
What makes up the total cost of owning a motorcycle?
Five groups: one-time purchase costs (notary transfer), recurring taxes and checks (MTV, inspection), running costs (fuel, insurance, maintenance), financing cost if you buy on credit, and depreciation — the value the motorcycle loses until you sell it. This calculator combines all of them for your ownership period.
Why is depreciation counted as a cost?
Because it is usually the biggest one: the difference between what you pay today and what you get back when you sell is money spent, just like fuel. Counting it shows the true cost — a cheap-to-run motorcycle that loses value fast can cost more than an expensive one that keeps it.
How reliable is the estimated resale value?
It is derived from the insurance industry's same-date value list: we look at how much older examples of the same model are worth today and apply that ratio. It is a snapshot, not a promise — condition, km and market timing move the real figure, and in high-inflation periods the lived loss can differ.
Why are insurance and maintenance not calculated automatically?
Both are personal: insurance premiums depend on your age, city and history, and maintenance depends on how and where you ride and service. Enter your own yearly figures — if you leave them empty they are simply left out of the total.
How is the financing cost calculated?
With the same engine as our loan calculator: the advertised monthly rate is grossed up with KKDF (15%) and BSMV (15%), and the annuity installment is computed for your term. The financing cost shown is the total you pay back minus the loan itself.
Why does MTV decrease over the years?
The motorcycle tax tariff is banded by engine size and vehicle age: as the vehicle gets older it falls into cheaper age bands. The calculator applies the correct band for every year of your ownership period.
What is the cost per kilometre useful for?
It turns everything into one comparable number. Ride twice as many km and your fixed costs (tax, insurance, depreciation) spread thinner — comparing two models at YOUR yearly km often gives a different winner than list prices suggest.
