How is power-to-weight calculated?

Power-to-weight = power (hp) ÷ weight (kg). We show it as hp per ton (×1000) because it is easier to read: a 75 hp bike weighing 190 kg makes 395 hp/ton. The same bike with a 75 kg rider drops to about 283 hp/ton — the rider matters more on lighter bikes.

Acceleration follows this ratio closely; top speed depends more on absolute power and aerodynamics. Factory figures usually use dry weight — add ~15-25 kg for fuel and fluids for real-world numbers.

Why does power-to-weight ratio matter?

Acceleration is determined by power relative to mass, not by horsepower alone. A light 50 hp bike can launch harder than a heavy 100 hp one — that is why hp per ton is the fairest quick way to compare two motorcycles.

What is a good power-to-weight ratio for a motorcycle?

Roughly: under 150 hp/ton is calm commuter territory, 150-300 is lively, 300-600 is properly fast, and 600+ hp/ton is supersport league — figures far beyond most sports cars.

Which is faster — X or Y?

Dry weight or wet weight?

Our factory figures are mostly dry weight. Fuel and fluids add roughly 15-25 kg, and the rider adds their own weight — add them for a real-world figure; the ranking between two bikes rarely changes though.

Does the A2 license limit power-to-weight?

Yes: A2 motorcycles must stay at or below 0.2 kW/kg (about 270 hp/ton) in addition to the 35 kW power cap.
